Note to Parents

In English, we have a saying: “Look before you leap.” This means that we should be smart and first think out carefully what we plan to do before we go ahead and do it. We should teach our children to do this so that whatever they may need to do, whether it be crossing a road, getting off a bus, doing their homework or taking out the trash, they will do so carefully and mindfully. Another valuable lesson we should teach our children is not to be greedy, for more often than not, it is greed that makes us not “Look before we leap.” and which, more often than not, results in some form of unhappiness or frustration.

You will see that this was the case of the little mouse and the cat in our story. The little mouse was so greedy to get at the cookie crumbs that although it knew it wouldn’t be able to climb out again, it jumped into the cookie jar anyway, and almost got eaten up by the cat. As for the cat, it was so greedy to eat the mouse that it could only see the size of the mouse and not the size of the cookie jar, and so ended up being stuck in it … for who knows how long.

In the end, the cat and mouse finally learned that it doesn’t pay to be greedy, and that it doesn’t pay not to “Look before you leap.” We hope that this little story may be useful in helping you illustrate these two valuable lessons to your children.
